PHILIPSBURG:--- Rotarians Sidharth "Cookie" Bijlani & Prakash "Peter" Dialani is the most recent recipient of the Paul Harris Fellowship from The Rotary Club of St. Martin Sunrise, Rtn. Cookie served as President for the year 2006-2007 and Rtn. Peter served for the year 2009-2010, among their accomplishments were donation of the Warm Bed for the Pediatric Ward of the Medical Center, Creation of a playground at the Emilio Wilson, launching of the successful Reading Program "Readers are Leaders", support to Haiti in the form of Shelter Boxes and the Big Kid Project, funding for St. Maarten Cultural Poster Project donated to all schools on the island, Donation to the University of St. Maarten towards it expansion plans, Youth mentoring with Victorious Living Foundation and Creation of a community Park in Belvedere, to name a few. Along with leading the Sunrise Rotary with its annual event and projects, their contribution as Presidents to the Rotary ideal has been a very positive part in motivating and continuing the work of Rotary.
The Paul Harris Fellow is an award given to those who have given $1000 dollars possibly over several years to the Rotary foundation or by a sponsor that has given the money in the recipient's name for extraordinary services rendered, It is one of the most prestigious awards in Rotary and thereby named after the founder of Rotary, Paul Harris who founded Rotary with three business associates in Chicago in 1905. The Fellowship was established in his honor in 1957 to expressed appreciation for a contribution to the humanitarian and educational programs of the Rotary Foundation, giving any sum of money to the Rotary Foundation makes you a part of the eradication of Polio, a partner in creating PEACE, a person who supports Clean Water and Sanitation where water is worth more than gold, it is measured in LIVES.
