An advisor to the United People's Party had on his Facebook on Thursday morning "13/12/13" which he believes will be the date for elections on St. Maarten.
Member of Parliament Romaine Laville met with a lawyer on Thursday morning to discuss the political situation on St. Maarten and his concerns with the SWW3 cabinet. Apart from the disgruntled politicians and their disagreements, the government of St. Maarten is facing higher supervision because to date they do not have a budget. Based on the current projection figures in the 2013 budget that is being prepared by Minister of Finance Martin Hassink, no government can collect the amount of monies predicted as incoming revenues. SMN News further learnt that St. Maarten has to rewrite its budget since they are not able to collect what they predicted monthly unless they increase all the current taxes. A certified accountant told SMN News that there are expenses in the 2013 budget that must be met but there is no way any government could collect what they have predicted in the budget and if there is no approved budget for the year 2013 then there will be higher supervision imposed on St. Maarten.
SMN News will bring you more information on the political crisis on St. Maarten as it unfolds. So far no one is making any official comment on the state of affairs of the island.
