ST. JOHNS:--- St. Maarten Tzu Chi Foundation volunteers continued to spread seeds of love and kindness during their monthly visit to the St. Martin's Home in St. Johns on Sunday, August 25.
A group of about ten volunteers including Tzu Chi Commissioner Sandra Cheung visited the home on Sunday afternoon to spend quality time with residents and to give them some pampering and attention. Volunteers engaged clients of the home in conversations, treated them to massages, polished their nails and did other fun stuff with them.
Many clients look forward to the monthly visit by volunteers, with some clients even requesting their deep massages when they see volunteers. Some clients make optimal use of the opportunity to recap how they spend their days or to share stories about their younger years.
The Foundation believes in giving back to the community in which we live, in particular to the elderly and the upcoming generation. "We value the time we spend at the St. Martin's Home with the clients and even if we manage to brighten the day of one client, then for us the visit is very meaningful," says Tzu Chi Commissioner Sandra Cheung.
The experience is also a very rewarding one for volunteers. "It's always a delight to visit the St. Martin's Home. It's a humbling learning experience and it's always a pleasure to put a smile on their faces," said Volunteer Bradly Attyl.
"I'm happy to be able to share the love with them," adds volunteer Yamile Bastidas.
Cheung says Tzu Chi will continue with its voluntary visits to the home as well as to other places on its annual calendar as the foundation continues its mission to touch the lives of others and make a meaningful difference in the community.
Tzu Chi carries out several missions in St. Maarten in the areas of education, health, charity, volunteerism and other areas. Its work is possible thanks to the donation of its volunteers, members (donors) and other individuals, groups and businesses in the community.
