voodoodancers05072015PHILIPSBURG:--- After a good performance representing Sint Maarten in the world Salsa Open Final In Puerto Rico 2014 , Mrs Paula Daal-Dono has been invited once again to be one of the Judges at The World Salsa Open Final in Puerto Rico 2015 scheduled to take place between 14-18 july 2015.
“This event Is the biggest in its nature and size in the world. It’s an Honor for me, to represent Sint Maarten once again at this prestigious event .” Mrs. Daal-Dono explains. “This would however not be possible without the help from my sponsor; Shiva’s Gold & Gems”.
“I’m very grateful for this sponsorship. I’ve been invited to other international events which I was unable to participate in because the of costs involved. The work of an artist is very hard at times. We need to make a living out of our art and at the same time we have to invest time and money to try to upgrade ourselves and stand out among others, especially internationally. This is why government and private sector support is needed to help local artists achieve new goals.” Mrs. Daal-Dono adds.
Not only do the artists become teachers for our children, they can also establish a recognition for arts /culture for a nation like Sint Maarten. For example: Salsa Congresses on Sint Maarten are slowly growing and attracting international salsa lovers who also take the opportunity to enjoy the rest of the island.
But these Salsa congresses, like any other art disciplines, need to be partly promoted with recognition. This is no different from other countries that eventually made a name for themselves for particular arts/culture: Salsa in Puerto Rico, Tango in Argentina , Geishas in Japan, Samba in Brazil and Bachata in Dominican Republic. These are just a few examples of arts around the world that attracts throngs of tourists yearly and is supported strongly by the private sector and government.
“Properly investing in Culture and Arts would be very beneficial for Sint Maarten in the long run, especially if it’s important for Sint Maarten to diversify its tourist product. Puerto Rico invested lots of money in the 90’s to promote the Salsa congress and train dancers, now it’s an event that makes a hefty profit for the organization, resort and the restaurants in the area. On top of that it gives Puerto Rico worldwide exposure.” Mrs. Daal-Dono concludes.
The World Salsa Open preliminary competition is held all over the world and the final is held every year in Puerto Rico. The event is combined with a salsa conference that include salsa classes and courses from professional dancers from all around the world.
